The Roxy Theatre in West Hollywood has become one of the best music clubs and venues not only in the immediate region, but one that is renowned all across the country. It has been open for going on 40 years, and continues to claim a position on the upper echelon of the Los Angeles music and nightlife scene. From great acts to notorious parties and more, the Roxy Theatre makes for a great time no matter who you are.
The Roxy Theatre first opened back in 1973. The very first musical act was Neil Young, which isn’t too bad a way to get the ball rolling for your venue. From there on out it’s been more of the same, with dozens and dozens of the most famous musicians and musical acts from decade to decade performing right here at the Roxy in West Hollywood. Everyone from Bruce Springsteen to Miles Davis to Guns N’ Roses before they were famous have played sets at the Roxy. The Adler family have have definitely contributed to the West Hollywood Music Scene by opening this establishment. Nic Adler runs the club these days and every so often you’ll see Lou pop by. Lou definitely raised Nic right as he has such a passion for the business and is as dedicated as they come.
The Roxy Sound System
The sound system and sound quality at the Roxy Theatre is unparalleled. That combined with the famous status of this nightclub spot has made the Roxy home to a number of recorded live albums, typically sold as “Live at The Roxy”. Artists to have put out just such an album include Bob Marley and the Wailers, Van Morrison and others. The club in the past has also been home to standout comic acts, and in general, all sorts of celebrity debauchery. Legendary Sound Engineer Frank O’Reilly when behind the desk has made thousands of bands sound amazing. If you’re band is playing at The Roxy, you may be lucky to have him mixing for your band.
At the On the Rox portion of the venue you’ll find a more lounge and nightclub scene that’s open to the early morning. There are private parties and celebrity-filled extravaganzas, but more often than not it’s a few famous celebrities trying to let it all hang out and have a good, worry-free time. Infamously, John Belushi was partying there before he overdosed, and it was also the site of a notorious weekend-long binge for John Lennon, Heidi Fleiss parties and much more.
Generally you’ll find live music at least five nights per week. All kinds of musical acts are brought on the stage, across an eclectic array of musical taste, and ranging in celebrity-hood from the unknown to the mega-famous. The Roxy manages to be very intimate and exclusive while still catering to large musical acts, big crowds including a mix of people from all walks of life and more. Other notable features include booth-seating, a full-service bar with a food menu and more.
